2014 Choreographers

 

Kate Davis, an Atlanta native, is the founder and director of Continuum Collective Dance, and a member of Rainbow Dance Company. Her recent work was shown at the American Dance Guild Festival in NYC, Blabbermouth Atlanta Dance Showcase, and the North Carolina Dance Alliance Choreographer's Showcase. Kate holds a BA in Dance from Birmingham-Southern College, and an MA in Dance from Florida State University. She lives in Raleigh, NC with her husband (and dance musician) Alex, and their son Julian.

Sayward Grindley is on faculty with Appalachian State University's Department of Theatre and Dance. She was formerly the Education Director with The Sarasota Ballet in Florida, working with them for seven years. Additionally, she worked with Fuzion Dance Artists of Sarasota, Florida for three years. Currently, Sayward is working towards her MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University.

Jasmine Knight is a native of Raleigh, NC.  She has performed throughout the Triangle in various liturgical celebrations, theater productions, and is a member of Clear Onyx Dance Company.  Presently, Jasmine is pursuing a B.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Dance Education at North Carolina Central University.

Nicole Lawson is a junior at Meredith College with a double major in Dance and Spanish. She is a company member of both Meredith Dance Theatre and Meredith Jazz and Tap Company.  Nicole's choreography has been featured in Meredith's gala performance for the past 3 years.

Natalie Marrone is a fusion choreographer blending Italian folk traditions and contemporary dance forms.   Her work has been seen in national commercials, live television events, in Dance Magazine and presented throughout the USA, Italy and Taiwan by NDEO, CORD and  various other presenters, grants and fellowships.  She has worked with Lou Conte, Ronald K. Brown, Jose Grecco, Stuart Pimsler and has taught internationally.  She is currently on faculty at Duke and Elon Universities.   Most recently Marrone’s work was performed at The American Dance Festival and featured in a new film starring Annabella Sciorra and Diana DeGarmo called Alto

 Sheldon Mba is a native of Durham, North Carolina. He is a current junior at North Carolina Central University studying Theatre and Dance Performance. He has worked with artist such as International choreographer Leonie McDonagh, Chuck Davis, Nia Love, Elizabeth Corbett and other faculty of the American Dance Festival. Sheldon plans to obtain his Master of Fine Arts in Dance Education and work with kids with disabilities on body awareness. He is also a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. 

Avis Hatcher-Puzzo has choreographed for NC State Ballet, the NC Museum of History, NC State University, NC Central University, and extensively in Fayetteville, NC.  Native of Connecticut, she has been Raleigh resident since 2008, and is the Associate Professor of Dance at Fayetteville State University.  Having created a Minor in Dance for the university, she holds a BA in Dance/Theater, an MFA in Theater Arts and a MS in Higher Education. Avis is the founder/choreographer of Koffee Dance Company (KDC), a modern-jazz dance company working out of the Raleigh-Durham area.

Kristin Taylor is a native of Durham, NC. She is a BFA graduate of the UNC School of the Arts. Ms. Taylor has trained at Jacobs Pillow, and on scholarship at the Lou Conte Dance Studios in Chicago. In New York, she apprenticed with Urban Bush Women, and worked with choreographers Nathan Trice, Bridget Moore, Christal Brown and Sidra Bell. Kristin has performed with Andrea Woods, Mexico City-based Tania Perez-Salas Compania de Danza, Juel Lane, Gaspard Louis, nosi DANCE theatre and created and performed works for Yuxtadanza Compania de Danza of Venezuela. Ms. Taylor is a proud recipient of the 2012 Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artist Grant to produce a concert of her latest works with her company KT COLLECTIVE. Currently, she is teaching at Riverside High School and the Ballet School of Chapel Hill as well as pursuing her teaching license at North Carolina Central University.

Justin Tornow is an NC native currently living in Durham, NC. She is the artistic director of COMPANY, a producer of the local artist series PROMPTS, an area instructor, and a co-founder of Durham Independent Dance Artists. Justin presents work regularly in North Carolina, New York, and Philadelphia. In 2010, Justin received an MFA in Choreography from UNC-Greensboro, and lived and worked in NYC before moving to Durham, NC in 2013. Justin is currently an adjunct teaching artist and a member of the Black Box Dance Theater Company in Raleigh, NC.

Alexandra Joye Warren is a native of the Washington, D.C. Metro area. She received her BA degree in Drama with a concentration in Dance/Pre-Medicine from Spelman College and Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Alexandra performed, choreographed and taught in New York from 2006-2013 performing with INSPIRIT, a dance company and served as Artistic Director for the 2012-2013 season. Alexandra has been fortunate to work on projects with Urban Bush Women, Bill T. Jones in FELA!, Paloma and Patricia McGregor’s Angela’s Pulse, Maxine Montilus, Sydnie L. Mosley Dances, Maverick Dance Experience, and Van Dyke Dance Group. Now based in Greensboro, NC, JOYEMOVEMENT, was launched in 2014.
